Helen Sutherland

Mrs. Sutherland was born September 20, 1918 in Dickenson County, Virginia to Tivis and Nevada Sutherland Counts. She has lived in Mansfield for the past 21 years. She enjoyed being with her family and loved quilting.

She is survived by her husband, Dewey Sutherland; daughter and son-in-law, Linda L. and Carl Kurek of Sarasota, Florida; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby G. and Sandra Sutherland, Roger and Joyce Sutherland, and Denney and Sue Sutherland, all of Mansfield; nine grandchildren, Coletta, Brent, Anita, Tina, Gerald, Kari, Joel, Kim, and Stacey; two step-grandchildren, Karen and Julie; eight great grandchildren; three sisters, Grace Hughes of Mansfield, Pauline Vance of Johnson City, Tennessee, and Alice Sawyers of McClure, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tivis and Nevada Counts, stepmother, Emma Counts, brothers, Vernon, Marvin, Hagan, and Luther Counts, and sisters, Beatrice Brooks and Crecie Sparks.

Friends may call at the Diamond Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Friday, April 30 from 6-8 p.m. with funeral services at 8:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. Mark Bailey. Funeral services will also be held at Mullins Funeral Home, Clintwood, Virginia, Monday, May 3 at 1:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. Robby Hay. Burial will be in Presley Cemetery, Dickenson County, Virginia.
