Harold "Hal" Olden Maxfield, Sr., 80, of Mansfield, died Friday, July 25, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Born January 8, 1934 in Cleveland, he was the son of Harry and Edna (Hoskinson) Maxfield.
A 1952 West Tech High School graduate, Hal served with the US Navy during the Korean war from 1952-1956 aboard the USS Ticonderoga. After the war, he went on to graduate from Baldwin Wallace College in 1959. Hal was a realtor for over 50 years working for several realty companies before starting his own company, Hal Maxfield Real Estate company where he just recently retired from in January 2014. He was past president of the Ohio Realtor Association, Mansfield Board of Realtors, Richland County Board of Developmental Disabilities (MRDD), and Certified Commercial Investment Member and was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans, National Association of Realtors, and Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Hal cared not only for his community, but was a wonderful family man who loved spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. An avid OSU fan, he was always very generous with his time and talents. When Hal did manage free time, he enjoyed traveling, reaching all 50 states, reading, woodworking, working in his yard, and studying history.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol (Dahn) Maxfield; children, Patricia (Dan) Jacobs of Broadview Heights, Mary Jo (Tony) Manocchio of Mansfield, Harold (Sharon) Maxfield, Jr. of Strongsville, Susan Sanders, of Mansfield, and Katherine (George) Stohrer of Wall, NJ; grandchildren, Daniel Jacobs, Jr., Brian Jacobs, Carolyn Jacobs, Robert Jacobs, Matthew Jacobs, Tony (Brooke) Manocchio, Jr., Andrew (Renee) Manocchio, Katherine Manocchio, Nicholas Manocchio, Amanda Maxfield, Gillian Maxfield, Sarah Sanders, Hannah Sanders, Meghan Sanders, Eric Stohrer, Abigail Stohrer, Kurt Stohrer, and Luke Stohrer; great grandchildren, Ava, Isabella, and Gianna Manocchio; sister-in-law, Roberta Zacharias of Avon Lake; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other dear relatives.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Emily Sanders and brother, Ramon Maxfield.
Friends may call Monday, July 28, 2014 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Ontario. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home conducted by Father Nelson Beaver. Military graveside services conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Squad will follow in Prince of Peace Cemetery.
