Gerald "Jerry" Link, 63, of Mansfield, passed away Thursday morning, September 18, 2014 at Country Meadows Care Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born February 13, 1951 in Mansfield, Ohio to the late Murla E (Walton) and William C. Link. He was a 1969 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School. Jerry worked for the railroad and retired from ODOT where he worked in the parts and inventory center in Ashland County. After leaving ODOT, he moved to Alaska for a few years before returning to Mansfield.
Jerry was a man of great integrity and was always willing to help others. He had a wonderful sense of humor, once you "figured him out". He was very proud of his service time in the U.S. Army and remained a proud supporter of our military. Jerry enjoyed playing cards and socializing with his friends at the Recovery Room and Mr. P's. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandsons-Anthony and Alexander-whom he loved dearly. Jerry will be missed greatly by those who knew him.
He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer (Herbert) Harkness of Lexington; three sons, Gerald D. Link, Jason Link and Jeffrey Link, all of Mansfield; two grandsons, Anthony and Alexander Harkness; and a brother, Michael Link of Crestline. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Curtis, William R. and Harvey Link.
In accordance with Jerry's wishes, there will be no public services. A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or MedCentral Hospice in Jerry's name. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family.
