Ernest "Ernie" R. Whitesel, 37, of Ashland, passed away unexpectedly Monday, November 28, 2016 as a result of an automobile accident. Born July 6, 1979 in Elyria, Ohio he was the son of Rodger and Charlotte (Walker) Whitesel.
Ernie had worked as a corrections officer and most recently worked for LTK Construction in Mentor, Ohio. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and was a member of the Eagles, AMVETS and the VFW. Ernie was free spirited, fun loving and very well liked by all whom he met and enjoyed riding his motorcycle and camping. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Rachel Whitesel; children, Hailey, Jacob, Jordan, Ayla and Aiden; step daughter, Skylah; his parents, Rodger and Charlotte Whitesel; a brother, Mitch Whitesel; and three nephews, Dominik, Louscius and Maximus.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Carl and Rose Walker and his paternal grandparents, Ernest and Wanda Whitesel.
Friends may call from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Avenue, Ashland. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 2, 2016 at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Matthew Pond. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home on Friday. Burial will follow in Sullivan Southview Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by the Ashland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
