After graduating from Willard High School, Douglas joined the U.S. Navy where he served for two years. He worked as a truck driver for Pepperidge Farm. Although laid back and easy going, Douglas always lived life to the fullest. He was a member of Bushmasters Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed scuba diving, boating on Lake Erie, flying airplanes, and riding his motorcycle. An animal lover, Bluegrass music was by far Douglas’s greatest love.
He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Pritchard of Grove City, Christina Hayhurst of Columbus; Cindi Bradley of Mansfield Cassandra Hehmeyer of Mansfield and Carisa Caris of Mansfield; grandchildren, Alex Cates, Erica Tackett, Jacob Belsterli, and Tim Belsterli; great-grandchildren, David Reese III, Gavin Cates, and Ethan Cates; and two sisters, Linda Caris Vanassche and Sandra Gibson of Willard. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Josephine Caris Fidler.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family of Douglas “Bluegrass” Caris.
