Dorothy was a nurse for many, many years caring for others at Peoples Hospital and Mansfield General Hospital, and more recently, at The Waterford of Mansfield. She was feisty, independent and highly opinionated, but had a deep love of caring for others up until the age of 90. Dorothy loved to travel and even drove a motor home to Missouri by herself on numerous occasions when she was in her 80s to spend time with her friends at the Lozarks. She cherished her dogs, Panda and Sam.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Tom (Susi) Maiyer; daughter, Joyce Riddlebaugh; son-in-law, T.E. McHale of CA; sister, Anna Pursley; grandchildren, Wendy (Matt) Carmichael, Thomas (Jessica) Maiyer, Stacie (David) Powell, Kim (Brad) Scott, Marc (Katie) Wilkins, Stephanie (David) Connell, all of Mansfield, David (Stephanie) Marshman of FL, Doug (Carol) Marshman of GA, and Christy (Mark) Collins of Marion; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Ethel Harden; husband, Bernard Spence; daughter, Brenda McHale; siblings, Virgil, Bill, and Laura; son-in-law, Mike Riddlebaugh; and grandson, Brian Maiyer.
The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 29, 2018 in the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd. The funeral service conducted by her grandson-in-law, David Connell, will immediately follow at 2:30 p.m. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Mansfield Memorial Park, Ontario, OH.
