He attended Mansfield Senior High School and retired from the Teamsters Union. He had previously worked for Wickes Lumber, Intra Trucking, Mansfield Tire and Rubber Co. and part-time at Elite Medical. Charles was a hard working, frugal man who raised his children as a single father. He was a good cook and prided himself on his appearance. A man with a good heart, he loved his grandchildren dearly. Although he could be stubborn and ornery, he was soft as a teddy bear to those he loved. Charles was very generous to anyone in need.
Charles was an avid golfer and enjoyed both playing and watching. His golf group, the Doughboys, were special friends. He always was busy fixing something or working on a special project. Charles loved his cats-even if he suffered with his allergies. He was a longtime collector of everything Santa Claus. Charles enjoyed spending time at McDonald's on Stewart Rd. with his coffee friends.
Charles is survived by three children, Beth (John) Thompson, Shannan (Jeffrey) Shull, and Charles (DeeDee) Hamilton-Johnson Jr.; eight grandchildren, Stephanie (David), Tyler, Danielle, Chloe, Alyxzanderia, Gabriella, Trinity and Sierra; three step grandchildren, Buddy, Aliya and Kalyn; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three siblings, Ernie (Linda) Johnson, Mike Johnson, and Jackie (David) Brown; many nieces, nephews and cousins; good friends, Earl and Dave; and his beloved cats, Midnight, Pain in the Butt 1, and Pain in the Butt 2.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty (Ogle) and Frank Capstack; sister, Linda Leeper; and best friend, Bob Pugh.
There will be no service or visitation at this time. Memorial contributions honoring Charles' love of cats may be made to S.T.O.P. or the Humane Society of Richland County. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family.
