Charles "Chuck" William Elkins, 82, of Mansfield, passed away Sunday evening, November 19, 2017, at Avita Galion Hospital. He was born April 27, 1935, in Piketon County, Kentucky, to the late Charles Ray and Julia Rebecca Ann (Mounts) Elkins and was raised in West Virginia.
Chuck was a hard worker and retired from Hartman Electric after 18 years of service. He was previously employed at Mansfield Plating for 30 years. He was a member of Venus Masonic Lodge #152, F & AM, where he held the office of Tyler and was a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite. Chuck attended Berean Baptist Church whenever he was able.
Chuck's family meant everything to him. He was a dedicated family man and always put them first in his life. He was so in love with his wife, Janet, and they made wonderful memories over the past 62 years. Christmas was his favorite time of year and his displays were legendary. He was famous for his secret recipe homemade fudge and cornbread. In his younger years, Chuck managed several softball teams that played at Cyclops field. He was a fan of all sports, but his favorite teams were the Cleveland Indians, Browns, Cavaliers and OSU Buckeyes.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Janet Elkins; son, Kevin (Debby) Elkins of Mentor, OH; daughters, Kathy (Glen) Ross and Kim (Steve) Riggenbach, both of Mansfield; four grandchildren who affectionately called him "Papoo", Kristen (Ryan) Ross of Galena, OH, Amanda (Jason) Secrist of Shelby, OH, Emily Elkins and Katie Elkins, both of Mentor, OH; three great-grandchildren, Gregory and Lily Secrist and Madison Ross; many nieces and nephews; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his four siblings, Donald and Fred Elkins, Violet Handwork and Connie Cook.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, November 24, 2017, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. A Masonic service will be recited at 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Mansfield Memorial Park.
