Charles "Chuck" A. Blum, 76, Galion, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at MedCentral Hospital in Mansfield. Born July 31, 1931, in Crawford County, he was the son of John and Ina Sonner Blum. He was owner/operator of Blum Equipment Company for over 50 years, manufacturing Hi Crest Ice Cream Machines in the 60's. He was a lifelong member of Calvary United Church of Christ in Crestline. He enjoyed sports, especially playing church softball, fishing, and coaching little league. Chuck also loved to follow all his granddaughter's athletics events. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who courageously fought his illness. A faithful servant to God, he was a giving man to his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Campbell Blum; son and daughter-in-law, John and Leanne Blum of Ashland and son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Sue Blum of Galion; daughter and son-in-law, Lyn and Jim Shoots of Wooster; grandchildren, Megan, Ally, and Dani Blum, Jenny, Jamie, and Sarah Shoots, Leslie Workman, and Andrea Liederbach; great-grandchild, Morgan Workman; brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Shirlee Blum of Crestline; sisters, Marge Palmer of Richwood and Shirley Kondo of Cleveland Heights; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents and sister Miriam Bush, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Allen Blum in 1953.
Memorial services will be held at Calvary United Church of Christ, 511 Heiser Ct., Crestline, OH, 44827, Monday, August 4, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. conducted by Rev. Kevan Franklin and Rev. Dr. Ron A. Kline. Friends may call at the church one-hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or Calvary United Church of Christ. Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the Blum family.
