Carl E. Pfeifer, 87, Mansfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at The Waterford of Mansfield. He was born to George W. and Florence (née Zwilling) Pfeifer on June 3, 1929, in Mansfield, Ohio, and lived in the area all his life.
Carl was a Graduate of Mansfield Senior High School on June 4, 1947, he was Class Treasurer since 2003, and he also attended Mansfield Business College.
He started working at Rogers & Co. Jewelers in June 1945, until July 1962. Opened Reliable Finance Co., in December 1962, as Part-Owner, Manager, sold company in 1990.
Carl became a member of Baku Chapter, Order of Demolay on March 28, 1946 and was raised to a Master Mason in November 1950 in Mansfield Lodge #35 F & AM. On January 6, 2016 Worshipful Master Tom Wappner presented to Noble Ill., Carl Pfeifer 33 degree his 65 year pin and certificate as a member of Mansfield Lodge #35 F & AM. He has 45 Enchanted Lanterns and joined Baku Grotto, M.O.V.P.E.R. in November 1950, was appointed Chaplain in 1954 and served as Chaplain of the Ohio Grotto Association and the Grottos of North America, and was made a Chaplain Emeritus in 1982.
He became a Scottish Rite AASR Valley of Columbus in 1953, Portrayed Marquis De Lafayette for over 30 years, in the 20th Degree, was awarded the 33 degree in 1974, in Atlantic City, NJ, and served as Secretary and past President of the Richland County Scottish Rite Association.
Carl became a member of York Rite Bodies, Mansfield Chapter #28 R.A.M. in 1957; Mansfield Council #94 R.S.M. in 1958; Mansfield Commandry #21 K.T. in 1959, was a member and Past Sovereign of Mohican Council #134, Allied Masonic Degree member of Knight Masons of Dublin, Ireland, member of Royal Court #42 Order of the Amaranth, member and past Chaplain of Mansfield Shrine Club, member and past Sovereign of St. Jerome Conclave, Columbus, OH, Order of Red Cross of Constantine. Member and past Potentates Aide (twice) of Al Koran Shriners since 1960, and member of Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels June 9, 1987.
He was a Life member of Elks No. 56, Post #26 Amvets and the George Washington National Memorial at Alexander, VA. He received the George Washington Award in 1981, was a 56 Year Member of U.S. Power Squadron, attended 32 Consecutive Annual Meetings of the Supreme Council AASR. on February 5, 2016, he was awarded his 65 year Membership Certificate in Baku Grotto; received the Bronze Eagle Statue Award from the Boy Scouts of America.
During his lifetime, Carl made 25 trips to Europe and had been on 19 cruises, he also made two trips to Africa and one trip to the Far East, and had visited 50 different Countries. He spent two years in the U.S. Army, 145th Infantry, 37th Division, from 1951 to 1952. Carl was onboard the 2014 Honor Flight from Columbus to Washington, D.C. He had wintered in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for the 25 years. He was also a member of the Sons of Herman, and a Lifetime member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, in Mansfield, Ohio, as well as a former member of the Hand bell Choir, former member Gifts and Memorial Committee, and assisted the Pastor for many years at the Sunday morning service. A member of the Grand College of Rites of the U.S.A, he was a 42 year member of the Mansfield, Ohio Rotary Club, and a nine time Paul Harris Fellow. His special interests included boating; he was the owner of a 1965 Lyman 25’ Runabout, that he bought brand new. Life was good and he thanked the Lord every evening upon retiring.
Carl is survived by his dear sister, Marjorie (née Pfeifer) Hail; niece, Carla (née Hail) Eisenloffel (Thomas); nephew, Gregory L. Hail (Matthew Culler); stepson, Mark A. Sisco (Shelly); stepson-in-law, Daniel Hergatt (Corrie); step-grandchildren, Stephan Hergatt (Jennifer), Lisa Sizelove (Robert), Ryan Hergatt (Elizabeth), Jennifer Hergatt (Matt), and Cayla Starlin; step-great-grandchildren, Charles A. Sizelove and Anna G. Hergatt. He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. Pfeifer and Florence (née Zwilling) Pfeifer; wife, Norma E. (née Blackstone) Sisco-Pfeifer; brother-in-law, C. Norman Hail; stepdaughter, Laurie A. Hergatt; and brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Jack and Dorothy Palmer.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2016 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, followed by a Masonic service at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St. A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Jared Ruark, will be held on Monday, June 13, 2016 at 10:30 am at St. John's United Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Mansfield Cemetery, where military honors will be presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Squad and Army Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio.
