

Blake Myers, 91, of Ashland, died early Thursday morning, December 30, 2004 at Good Shepherd Home. The youngest of three children, he was born December 30, 1913, in Medina, Ohio, to Anna Koppler and Tom Myers. The family moved to Ashland where he graduated from Ashland High School in 1931. After graduation, he worked at Prince's Lunch, Lincoln, Cottage Restaurants, and the arcade Pool Hall. He was a five-year veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. After his discharge, he went to work as a tire builder at the Mansfield Tire and Rubber Company, retiring after 30 years. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #1067, and American Legion Post #88.
He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Long Straiton of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren, Kevin J. Markley of Ashland, Brian Long, Debbie Schaeffer, Melanie Zabarowski, Doug Straiton, and Leslie Skweres; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Miriam B. Myers; daughter, Bonita Markley; son, James E. Long; and brothers, Howard and Raymond Myers.
Funeral services conducted by Pastor Norm Johnson will be held at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Monday, January 3, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Military graveside services conducted by Ashland County Honor Guard will follow in Ashland County Memorial Park. The family requests any memorial contributions are made to the charity of the donor's choice.
