Betty J. Moore, 88, of Mansfield, died Sunday, June 26, 2016 at her residence. She was able to stay at her home because of the loving care of her daughter, Linda and her granddaughter, Christi. Born February 26, 1928, she was the daughter of Charles and Jessie Matheny.
She graduated from high school in the class of 1946 in Shinnston, West Virginia and attended West Virginia University and business college for one year. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Pandora Dance Club and the Baku Grotto where she loved to dance. She enjoyed gardening and playing the piano but her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda (Don) Applegate of Mansfield; three sons, Dave (Janet) Moore of Port Clinton, Ohio, Roger (Joanne) Moore of San Antonio, Texas and Steven (Beth) Moore of Charlotte, North Carolina; ten grandchildren, Timothy (Michelle) Applegate of Mansfield, Ohio, Daniel (Leslie) Applegate of Shiloh, Christi Rock of Mansfield, Brad (Veronica) Moore and Jamie (Tomas) Hernandez both of San Antonio, Texas, Elliott Moore of Chicago, Illinois, Alex Ann Moore of Detroit, Michigan, Jordan Moore of Port Clinton, Ohio, Haylee (Kris) Burnham of Charlotte, North Carolina and Garrett Moore of Atlanta, Georgia; 15 great grandchildren, Denise, Gabrielle, Willow, Bailee and Cole Applegate, Kaitlyn and Ryan Rock, Raquel, Miranda and Bradley, Jr. Moore, and Kaiden, Talon, Alysia, Triston and Ashton Hernandez; four step great grandchildren, Morgan, Lacey, Levi and Dominik; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert L. Moore; two brothers, Paul and Richard Matheny; a sister, Mary Dotson; and a granddaughter, Theresa Moore.
A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Betty will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Wappner Cremation Center, 1327 Ashland Road, Mansfield conducted by Rev. Steven K. Brown. Friends may call one hour prior, from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m., at the cremation center on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Richland County Humane Society or the American Lung Association.
