Bernard L. Tabor, 89, passed away Saturday evening in the care of OhioHealth Hospice at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital after spending his final days in the comfort and company of his daughter and granddaughter.
Bernie was born March 22, 1933 in Carter County, Kentucky and lived most of his life in Mansfield. He retired from GP Weigand Construction and was a proud member of his local carpenters union.
In his youth, he was a talented sharpshooter and enjoyed showing off his talent by shooting at coins tossed in the air. At holidays, Bernie always shot mistletoe out of the old Gum tree for family and friends.
Bernie spent much of his retirement traveling and playing BINGO with his wife. He was a quiet man of few words who could often be seen walking his daily 5 miles or visiting the Burger King on South Main.
He is survived by his daughters, Patricia (Harold) Wyrick and Kimberly (Saundra Lewis) Tabor both of Mansfield; his son-in-law, Joseph Henderson of Mansfield; granddaughters, Rachel (Nicholas) Bush of Columbus and Sara (Steven) Brown of Mansfield; great grandchildren, Lila, William and Elizabeth Bush of Columbus and Olivia, Emma, Sophia and Owen Brown of Mansfield; stepchildren, Leesa Heald of California and David (Kathi) Heald of Richmond, Indiana; his step son-in-law, Danny Butterbaugh of Mansfield; numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; and his sister, Joyce Spangler of Sharpsburg, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Rena Tabor; his wife of 45 years, Paula; his daughter, Sheila Henderson; his step daughter, Jeri Butterbaugh; his great grandchildren, Dylan and Clara Bush; his sisters, Madge Butler and Jewell Holbrook; and his brothers, Alpha Tabor and Lowell Tabor.
Bernie’s family will honor his wish to not have any services and to place him as quickly as possible next to his beloved wife at Mansfield Memorial Park.
