Audrey Chambers, 100, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away Friday, August 26, 2016, after a short illness. She slipped from this life into the arms of our Lord. She was born on December 8, 1915, in Wellston, Ohio, to the late Pearl and Grace Potts.
A wonderful, caring person who always gave of herself, Audrey always helped and supported her family in any way she could. Even in Audrey's last hours, her thoughts were of her son, not herself, as she warned him to be careful and take care of himself.
Her native skills were displayed in the beautiful embroidery and needlework creations for which she was famous. She lovingly cared for her own family, and also raised many other families throughout the years as well. She greatly enriched other people's lives, not only with her crafts, but by babysitting for others who couldn't afford day care costs. As the children Audrey cared for grew into adults, they always remembered her, especially at Christmas, and she was known to receive fifty cards or more from loved ones. Audrey was an avid reader and loved working puzzles.
She is survived by a son, Harlin (Anne) Chambers of Mansfield and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Audrey is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Chambers of Radcliffe, OH; daughter, Margaret Henry of Bellville, OH; daughter, Naomi Gettins of southern Ohio; twin sister, Ada Pendleton of Mansfield; sisters, Verlie Salts and Ardale Boring, both of southern Ohio; and a brother, Roy Potts of Mansfield.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road with the funeral service immediately following at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Michael Stine of Clearfork Alliance Church will conduct the service. Burial will be in Radcliffe Cemetery, Vinton County, Ohio, at a later date.
