Vincent Salvatore Mistretta, known affectionately as Vince, passed away on July 19, 2024, in Whiting, New Jersey at the age of 92. Born on August 27, 1931, in Newark, New Jersey, Vince grew into a figure of strength and leadership, traits that he carried throughout his life.
Vince dedicated a significant portion of his career to the field of education, most notably as a Principal at a Special Education school in Newark. His commitment to the development and well-being of his students marked his tenure, earning him the respect and admiration of colleagues, students, and parents alike. Beyond his professional life, Vince was a passionate high school football coach, where he not only shaped the skills but also the lives of his players, many of whom continued to seek his advice and mentorship long after their graduation.
At home, Vince was the beloved patriarch of his family, a role he cherished deeply. His approach to family life was a blend of demand and flexibility, always rooted in his genuine care and willingness to support his loved ones in any way possible. Vince's love for his late wife Marie was profound, and together they nurtured a family that included cherished children Laura Tedesco and her husband Frank, Salvatore Mistretta and his wife Claudine and Vincent Mistretta and his wife Laura, grandchildren, Amanda Costanzo and her husband Brian, Frank Tedesco and his wife Danielle, Vincent Mistretta and his wife Jacque, Alyssa Gorden and her husband Alex , Sam Mistretta, Salvatore Mistretta III, along with Nicholas Mistretta. His cherished great-grandchildren. loved him dearly, they are: Vincent Mistretta, Jull-ianna Mistretta, Justin Kirchhofer, Brynlee Costanzo, Christian Costanzo, and Talia Costanzo. He was waiting patiently for his newest grandson Luca Tedesco who will arrive in October. Vince's love and admiration extended to his siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and even the family dogs, all of whom felt the warmth of his presence.
Vince's legacy is carried on by a family that adored him, former students who were guided by him, and players who were coached by him. His impact on the community and the many lives he touched will be remembered and celebrated. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate his remarkable life and the countless ways in which he made the world a better place.
There will be a visitation for Vincent on Wednesday, July 24th, 2024, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 3010 Ridgeway Rd., Manchester, NJ, 08759. A funeral service and military honors will take place on Thursday, July 25th at 10:30am at the chapel of Ocean County Memorial Park, 1722 Silverton Rd., Toms River, NJ 08753. Entombment will follow.
