It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of John Joseph Cleary. John, known as Jack to family and friends, was born in NYC and raised in the South Bronx. He graduated from Rice High School in 1951. John worked at Equitable Life Assurance for 38 years retiring in 1989 as a Personnel Manager. John then worked in sales for various office furniture manufacturers and dealerships until 2006.
John was married for 46 wonderful years to his wife Madeline (née Nugent) who predeceased him in 2005. John and Madeline lived first in Manhattan, moving to Old Bridge, NJ in 1966 and later to Middletown, Toms River, and finally to Renaissance in Manchester, NJ.
John was an avid reader, enjoyed photography, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. He was a devout catholic. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a die-hard NY Yankees and NY Giants fan. He was known for his Sunday breakfasts with perfectly cooked fried eggs, his delicious rice pudding, his sweet tooth, his Irish gift of gab, his funny sneezing fits, his smile, his blue eyes, and his devotion to his family.
John was the son of John and Delia (née Galvin) Cleary both from County Clare, Ireland. John is survived by his sister Kathleen Doran of Long Island, NY; his brother Robert Cleary of Bronx, NY; his son John and his children Amanda and Alex of NJ; and his daughter Bridget Boldrin and her husband Bob and their children Brianne, Tara, and Sean of NC. He will be greatly missed and his legacy will live on.
