Carl "Deacon" Roberts

Carl Roberts (known as Deke – the Deacon – or the Big Bad Deacon) was born in Orange, NJ on July 23, 1933 to the late Dave and Ella Mae Roberts. He graduated from Orange H.S. in 1952, after High School he attended Morris College in Sumter, SC where he played football and majored in History. He worked at the American Can Company in Hillside, NJ as a Quality Controller Supervisor until he retired. He also worked for Mackie and Mackie moving company.

Carl was a great family man gathering up his brothers, sisters and their families along with his family to attend football games at Orange High School, which was his passion. He loved playing horseshoes and cooking breakfast, fried chicken and pinto beans for the neighborhood. While cooking he would have music blasting. The love of his life was his children, Karen, Carl, Kim and Kiki who he treasured and gave the world to.

Carl was the last one left out of 14 children to turn off the lights. He was preceded in death by his siblings Johnny, Freddie, Jeff, Dave, Harold, Delores, Russell, Constance, George, Shirley, William, Robert, Edward and his deceased daughters Wanda Reavis and Rhonda Scott.

Carl leaves behind his children: Karen Myers (Allen), Carl Reavis, Kimberly Payton (Andrew), Keisha Morrison (Lark), Valerie Reavis, like children to him David Hayes, Mark Conway and Nancy Bergstrom Grand-children: Shameka Roberts, Carl and Charles Hayes, Tanya Myers, Shameca, Michael and Tryon Trotman, Mahogany Weeks, Jamelle Jordan, Marcia, Matthias and Talia Payton, Joseph, Tiana and Valerie Reavis, Devin and Kevin Davis, Nyeisha Kennedy, Kadeem Evans, Ronasia and Ronald Scott, Thomas and Terrance Bergstrom, Kevin Gadson and Steven Lilly, Great-grand children: Shakeem and Da’zjah Myers, James, Janiah and Jaymire Watts, Alexis, Carl Jr. and Tyesha Hayes, Norion, Nysere, Nasheem, Mehki and Ameere Davis, Tyleek, Jada, Michael and Khalil Trotman, Kadeem Evan, Jr. and Aminah Truelove. One Great-great granddaughter Nevaeh Rummel. Special cousin who is more like a big brother Gordon Roberts (Kim), special friends Daniel and Gloria (Go-Go) Scott, hosts of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
