Alice Sanseverino

April 2, 1919-November 15, 2024

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY to Esther Zazzarino and Anthony Camerano. She attended Erasmus High School. After graduating she went to work as a secretary in a law firm.

In 1941 she married Raphael Sanseverino. Some years later she had her 2 children, Anita and Raymond, and stayed at home to raise her beloved children. She moved from Brooklyn to the suburbs of Long Island.

After separating from her husband, she went back to work traveling 2 hours each way to the Brooklyn Navy yard for 1 year until she received a transfer to Mitchell Field Air Force Base near to her home.

As an administrative assistant for the Department of Defense, she received numerous awards for her outstanding performance at the office.

Although reserved, she had an adventurous spirit. Her idol was Amelia Earhart.

Working at an Air Force Base, she had the opportunity to fly during her lunch hour in a 2-seater airplane flown by a friend who was a participant in the Powder Puff Derby – a racing competition for female pilots. It was one of the most thrilling experiences of her life!

She continued to work into her 60s until tragedy struck. Her son and daughter-in-law, Karen, were in a serious car accident which took her life. Without hesitation, Alice left her job, sold her house and all her possessions and went to live with her son to help raise his two daughters, Deirdre, age 10, and Stacy, age 5.

When Alice's son remarried a few years later, she moved in with her daughter and family to New Jersey.

This was the time of her life where she could pursue her own interests and hobbies. Above all, she loved ballroom dancing.

Two to three times per week she would attend ballroom dances with friends. At the age of 70, it was at one of these dances that she met her longtime love and dance partner, Joseph De Pietro (Joey D).

As much as she derived pleasure from dancing, her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

As much as she enjoyed them, they enjoyed her.

She always seemed younger than her years and her family loved being with her. Because of the tremendous love and devotion, she showed her family throughout the years, they always remain tighten knit and close to her.

As an example of her zest for life, at the age of 88, she purchased a brand new, bright red Chrysler 300. She always wanted a red car, and she never let her age determine her actions.

She was vibrant and healthy and driving until the age of 99, (even in snowstorms). She was always so optimistic that at the age of 100 she purchased a five-year warranty on her refrigerator.

Another example of her young at heart attitude, she said she didn’t want to go grocery shopping early in the day because all the “old“ people went shopping then and jammed up the aisles and slowed her down.

From the age of 100 to her passing at 105 1/2, she may have slowed down, but she was still fashionable, went shopping for clothes and makeup, had her hair and nails done, went to lunches and all family gatherings where she was surrounded by her devoted family.

She passed on November 15, 2024, after a brief illness and hospital stay surrounded by loving family members.

She is survived by her children, Anita Sanseverino-Galan and Raymond Sanseverino. Son-in-law Thomas Galan and daughter-in-law Kimber Sanseverino. Grandchildren Deirdre Van Nest and husband Peter, Andrea S. Di Preta and husband Mario, Michele Byrnes and husband James, Stacy and Sophie Sanseverino and Thomas Galan Jr. and wife Maria.

She is also survived by her great grandchildren Annika, Baylis and husband Luke, Noah Van Nest, Isabella and Victoria Galan, Arianna, Chiara and James T. Byrnes, and Annamaria Di Preta.

She leaves behind a legacy of Love and devotion to family. She will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her and loved her.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation for Alice, at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 3010 Ridgeway Road, Manchester, NJ, 08759, on Monday, November 25, 2024 from 4:30 to 8 pm, with family remarks for Alice will be from 6 to 7 pm, during the visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 from 11 am to 12 pm, at the Church of St. John & St. Mary, 15 St. Johns Pl, Chappaqua, NY 10514. Entombment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 Westview Avenue, Hawthorne, NY 10532.
