Vasiliki “Bessie” Kotrotsios, 93, of Manchester, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2018 at Webster at Rye Nursing Home, with her family by her side after a brief illness. She was born in Manchester on May 19, 1925, the daughter of Demetrios and Helen (Aggele) Arvanitis. Bessie grew up in the Queen City and was a graduate of Central High School.
In 1946, she married the love of her life, Charlie Kotrotsios, with whom she shared 31 years of life, laughter and love until his passing at age 55. Together they owned and operated Victory Fruit neighborhood store. She was later employed at Kids-R-Us until retiring at age 79. She was a former member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. In 2010 she relocated to the seacoast living in Portsmouth with her daughter and son-in-law. Bessie was an avid bowler and great cook who enjoyed Greek dancing and traveling but above all else, she loved being with her family and friends. A true inspiration of kindness, caring and love, she was an example of beauty both inside and out. She will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.
She was predeceased by her husband Charles T. Kotrotsios in 1977 and her daughter Lynda K. Manning in 2012.
Members of her family include her daughter Constance K. Allard and her husband Champ, her granddaughters Melissa L. Salmon and Chelsea A. Riggs and her husband Nate, her grandson Joshua C. Allard and his wife Becky, her great-granddaughters Isleigh M. Riggs and Scarlett J. Allard and her son-in-law Leo F. Manning as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Monday, October 29, from 10 to 11am at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 650 Hanover St. in Manchester followed by a Funeral Service at 11am. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Bessie’s name be made to the Alzheimer’s Association MA/NH Chapter 309 Waverley Oaks Rd. Waltham, MA 02452 or to St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. The McHugh Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family with her care.
