Nancy Ellen (Wuest) Cook died on July 18, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer in her home in Manchester, surrounded by family. She was a 73-year-old wife, mother and grandmother who always looked for the best in people and wanted to leave everyone with happy memories.
Nancy was born on January 29, 1942 in Melrose, MA. She grew up in Malden, MA and graduated from Cheverus High School. She earned her Associate’s Degree from the local community college. She moved to Manchester, NH in 1959.
In 1964, she married the love of her life, Charles “Chuck” Cook. Nancy was a full-time mom and homemaker for most of her life. She created a loving home where her family thrived and neighborhood children were always welcome. Nancy truly believed that every child deserved love and spoiled as many children in her life that she could.
Nancy was best known for sending notes of encouragement to friends and family often. She actively volunteered at her children’s schools and enjoyed attending a book club. She enjoyed recreational shopping and returning merchandise to shop again, doing her best to create a self-sustaining cycle of retail therapy. Nancy savored every cup of Dunkins she drank throughout the day—when you sip your next coffee, please think of her.
Nancy leaves behind her beloved husband of 51 years, Chuck, and their children: Colleen Cook and husband Jeff Barkley, Christine Nancy Cook and husband Jeff Santacruce, Charlene and husband Cary Hueber, Chuck and wife Meredith Cook, and Scott and wife Patti Cook; and her eight grandsons.
SERVICES: Family and friends gathered to remember and honor Nancy at a wake held at the McHugh Funeral Home, 283 Hanover St., at the corner of Beech St., in Manchester on Wednesday, July 22 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Thursday, July 23 at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Church, 575 Candia Rd., Manchester. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery in Bedford.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Nancy Cook’s name to support adaptive programming for children with special needs at the Granite YMCA, Attn: Development Office, 117 Market St., Manchester, NH, 03101; or to Autism Speaks, 1060 State Rd., Second Floor, Princeton, NJ 08540.
