He grew up in Manchester and in the Washington, D.C. area, and served in the United States Marine Corps for eighteen years. Captain Michael F. Hand was a U.S. Marine Air Ground Intelligence Officer with Top SCI clearance. During Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003-2006 he served in the II Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, the 2nd Intelligence Battalion, and the Expeditionary Warfare School. He served in Bosnia in 2002-2003 as a senior analyst in the Combined Task Force in support of NATO objectives. He served in 1999-2000 as Commanding Officer Headquarters Company in the 2nd Marine Regiment (Infantry). In 1998-1999 he was an Intelligence Officer in the 12th Marine Regiment (Artillery). He served in Operation Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield in 1990-1991. He graduated from the United States Marine Corps Officer Candidate School in 1998, Quantico VA. He graduated from Green Mountain College in 1993 with a B.A. degree in Liberal Arts - English concentration.
Mike Hand has forever been a dear friend to all who knew him, a vivacious and caring spark of love and wit and meaning in their lives - a man of laughter, of honesty, of courage, and of depth. He lived and loved deeply, and will always be loved deeply by those fortunate enough to have known him.
Family includes his mother Joyce (Fulton) Hand of Naples FL, his grandmother Grace Fulton of Naples FL, a multitude of close cousins and aunts and uncles of the Francis and Dorothy Hand family of Manchester, NH and of the Robert and Grace Fulton family of Afton NY, and many dear friends in Manchester NH and beyond.
