Marlene D. Lavoie, 70, of Portsmouth, passed away peacefully, after a short illness, on September 21, 2018 at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital with her loving family at her side. She was born in Manchester on February 18, 1948 the daughter Stanley and Maryann (Enright) Smith. She lived most of her life in the Queen City where she was educated in the local school system and attended Manchester Central High School.
She graduated from the Empire Beauty School and went on to become a first class hair stylist at Jack’s Hair Salon and was later self-employed in her home. She was a fun loving lady who enjoyed camping and trips to the beach with her family and friends and loved playing Bingo and travelling to Foxwoods to try her luck on the nickel slots. She will be fondly remembered as a loving and devoted mom, Grammy, Great-Grammy, daughter, sister and friend.
She was predeceased by her sisters Carolyn Thompson and Joanne Glynn.
Members of her family include her daughters Jodi Carnes and her husband Scott of Rollinsford and Cheryl Lavoie of Manchester, her son Jason Lavoie and his wife Maeghan of Rollinsford, her grandchildren Jessica, Matthew, Nicholas, Kaitlyn, Zoe, Zackary, Parker and Riley, her great-grandsons Liam, Landon and Leonidas, her brother Stanley Smith of Manchester and her sister Nancy Hastings of Minnesota as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was be held on Thursday September 27 from 4 to 7 pm at the McHugh Funeral Home 283 Hanover St. corner of Beech St. in Manchester with a funeral service celebrated at 6 pm. Cremation followed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Marlene’s name be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital PO Box 1000, Dept. 142 Memphis, TN 38148.
