Marie Eveline Michon, nee Stewart, age 94, of Manchester, died peacefully at Hanover Hill Healthcare Center with loving family by her side, on March 4, 2025. She was born in Tracy, New Brunswick, Canada on March 17, 1930, the daughter of Hiram and Katherine J. Stewart (nee Blackmore), both of Red Bank, New Brunswick, Canada. While she grew up in Tracy, she met and married Arthur J. Michon, Sr., of Bas Caraquet, New Brunswick, Canada, on January 24, 1948, after which she emigrated to Manchester, N.H. to live, work and raise their family. With Arthur Sr., she spent 61 devoted years of marriage. Marie's heritage embodied a rich history of native North American, English, Scottish & Irish descent and married into native North American and French descent.
She was predeceased by her husband Arthur J. Michon, Sr., her sons Randall (Butch) Michon and Arthur J. (Ricky) Michon, Jr., her granddaughter Lisa Marie Craig and grandson Kenneth Sullivan, and by her Canadian sisters Sadie Monola Nason, Ruby Randall Mead and brother Theodore Stewart. Surviving members of her family include her daughter Patricia Perreault (Omer) of Bedford, NH, her son Dennis Michon (Kathy) of Manchester, her daughter Katherine Michon (Bruce Roy) of Manchester, and Clorinda Schenck (William) of Kennebunk, Maine, for whom she welcomed into her home as a daughter.
Of all the many places Marie had seen and been in the world, of all the things she had done and people she had known, a “Giver of Life" is Marie’s greatest legacy. For in Marie’s lifetime she begat 5 children into this world and saw 45 beautiful grandchildren born. She has 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren (and one on the way). Her 13 grandchildren are Lisa Craig, Michael Michon, Jamie McLean, Kevin & Chris Michon, Michelle Laramie, Renee Johnson, Kim and Kenneth Sullivan, Pam Russell, Sharon Cote, Courtney Boisvert and Robyn Michon. Her 21 great-grandchildren are Benjamin, Monique, Makayla, Jennifer, Luke, Jordan, Trevor, Dominic, Izabella, Cortlyn, Willis Jr., Reneshia, Michael (Gallant), Nicholas, Jason, Brittney, Ilana, Audrey, Trenton, Bailey and CJ Pepper. And her 11 great-great grandchildren are Caleb, Brooklyn, Matthew, Brooke, Maddison, Charlotte, Jaivier, Isabella, Nariah, Silas and Gloria.
Marie's family would like to recognize her dear family in Canada, whom she loved very much. To her nieces Doris, Marjorie(d), Velma(d), Esther & Rose(d), and nephews Byron(d), Stuart(d), Lester, Randy, Francis(d), Stafford and Errol, and to hundreds more nieces and nephews in Tracy, as well as in the Miramichi region of New Brunswick, Canada. Back in New Hampshire, a special mention goes out to Debbie Young, Chris Pepper and Craig Proulx, for whom Marie had a special fondness.
Marie will always be remembered as a loving and dutiful daughter to her mum Kate, the very best mother in the world, the greatest grandmother there ever was, and the dearest sister and aunt. As a treasured note ~ Marie Eveline has the names of two first ladies in religious history, Mary and Eve. Two special names for one very special lady. Her priest, Father Paul, told her this in the midst of her learning when she converted to Catholicism in her mid-40s. Marie was a member of the Ladies Of St. Anne, and the family wishes to thank them for all their kindnesses.
Marie did not live the “American dream” as it is defined as owning a house, car and television, and as a homemaker with plenty of food on the table. Rather, she toiled long and hard as a piece worker for 40 years, from 1948, in the Amoskeag Mills Bee Bee, Prevue & J.F. McElwain shoe shops, and until all the shoe shops closed down. She had to find additional income to support her children and did so as an Avon Lady also for 40 years. Make no mistake when it came to Marie's drive as she worked tirelessly and selflessly to afford what her family needed. But too, in working at both occupations, it offered her many friends and hundreds of acquaintances. During WWII, Marie worked shoveling snow off the railroad
tracks in Canada and enjoyed softball as a young girl in Tracy as well as for J.F. McElwain shoe shop in Manchester.
Marie may not have had much in her younger years and raising her children, but later in life she enjoyed a warm home in Manchester and a cozy cabin in Vespra, NB Canada, with her daughter. It was due to Marie's hard work that her daughter was able to go to college and provide these for her later. In all her days Marie helped countless numbers of people, young and old alike, with whatever needs they had, and with whatever means she had.
Having been widowed later in life, she had a 15 year endearing companionship with Harold Carr, of Tracy NB, Canada. They traveled from the Atlantic Provinces of Canada, to New Hampshire, Virginia and on down to Florida. They also shared the love of quilt making, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and going to bingo, bird hunting, working in the woods felling and hauling trees, to splitting and ranking logs for their wood stoves; and all of these well into her eighties. A special thank you to Harold and his family in Canada, for many wonderful years and memories, to Duane (Annette) Carr, David(d) (Cindy) Carr, Donita Carr & Ronda (John) Benjamin.
