He was surrounded by his loving family in his home, after a short battle with lung cancer. He was a veteran, having served in the Marine Corp. Don was a proud member of the Laborers International Union, Local 668 in Manchester NH for over 50 years. He worked for Caron Construction, then Harvey Construction until his retirement in 1996.
Don was a very loving and devoted family man, husband, father, brother and Pépère. Don leaves behind the love of his life, Mildred “Milly” Poirier, his daughter Kristin Poirier Gardner, her two children, who are the light in Pépère’s eyes, Patrick and Jack-Hayden Gardner, in addition to their dad, Richard Gardner, Jr. He is predeceased by his son Joseph D. Poirier and his grandson Bradley Poirier in 2019. He is also predeceased by his mother Lucienne Turcotte Poirier and his father Lorenzo Poirier. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Ruth Young as well as his brother Maurice Poirier and his sisters Claire Poirier, Denise Poirier Bellerose and Doris Poirier Ricard and Alicia Poirier Eaton, Bradley’s mother. He is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and close family friends. He always held a special place in his heart for his Canadian and Texas families.
Don’s favorite place was at his cabin in Sutton, NH that he built from the ground up over many decades and after retirement. His fondest times were with his family at the cabin, riding tractors and he treasured family gatherings and the annual fall parties. He always loved working on special projects with Patrick and Jack-Hayden.
He will be so deeply missed by all. His spirit will live on in all the hearts that he has touched. Rest in peace Don, Dad and Pepere. You have no more pain, you are free and young again, you can now build a cabin in heaven. We know that you were lovingly welcomed by Joe and Brad. We will always love you till no end…
