Charles McNeil, 77, of Manchester, died July 11, 2015 at the Elliot Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Wilmington, DE, on July 1, 1938 the son of Charles A. and Helen (Moore) McNeil. He was raised in Pennsgrove, NJ and educated in the local school system. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Maryland.
He was employed for many years as a machinist by the General Electric Company in Hooksett. Charles was an outstanding basketball player and was inducted into the New Jersey High School Athletic Hall of Fame and was also a member of the University of Maryland Championship Basketball teams of the 1950’s. He enjoyed sports and cheering for the Red Sox and Patriots but also cherished his quiet times spent boating and fishing. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and step-father.
Members of his family include his wife of 17 years, Chien McNeil of Manchester, his daughter Colleen Leftridge and her husband Shane of Columbus, OH, his ten grandchildren, his sister Mary Owens and her husband Peter of Cape Cod, MA, his two step-daughters Ann Gammons and her husband Allen of E. Greenwich, RI and Elaine Akers of Portland, ME as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
