Arnold Counter, age 85, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on December 17, 2022 at the Elliot Hospital. He was born in Manchester, NH on March 5, 1937 to the late Frederick and Alice (Ledoux) Counter.
Arnold was raised in Manchester, New Hampshire and attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and the Air National Guard in High School and proudly served in the Korean War during his time in service. He married the love of his life, Madeline, in 1960, they raised three wonderful children together and created memories to last a lifetime. He spent most of his career as a Tool and Die Maker/Machinist in the manufacturing industry and loved to tinker with various projects around his home.
Arnold was lifetime member of the Elks Lodge #146, spending 50 years with their organization, and a member of the American Legion. He had many passions and hobbies, such as kayaking, boating, billiards, riding his motorcycle, collecting interesting artifacts, and spending holidays and summers at Lake Massasecum in Bradford, NH and Webster Lake in Franklin, NH.
He is survived by his wife Madeline Lois (Jackson) Counter, three children; Cathy Marie Estrella, Alan Frederick Counter and wife Erin Counter, Thomas Michael Counter; sisters, Rose Currier and Terry Niemir; sister-in-law, Lori Jackson; nieces and nephews, Sharon Litchfield, Mark Counter, Tamara Counter Maltone, Rhonda Counter, Randy Counter, Wendy Dulac, Karen Van Avery, Ronald Nastasi, Brian Nastasi and Christopher Nastasi; grandchildren, Jordan Elizabeth Barry, Thomas Joseph Barry, Bridget Mary Catherine Barry, Alexandra Madeline Margaret Barry, Gennaro Antonio Manas Buonocore, Tyler Zackary Counter, Katelyn Emily Counter, Alexus Sky Counter and Ari Counter; and two great-grandchildren, Kylie Marie Amelia O’Neal and Siobhan Margaret Lynn O’Neal.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his step-mother Antoinette Mitchell Counter; brothers, Robert Counter and Roland Counter; sister, Beverly Bernard and sister-in-law Constance Counter.
A visitation for Arnold will be held Friday, December 23, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McHugh Funeral Home and Cremation Service, with a funeral service at 6:00 PM and military honors to follow at 6:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that a donation be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Arnold’s memory.
