Jay was the proud owner of Tower Graphics in Brooklyn, New York. He was the taxi commissioner of New York City for 8 years under Mayor Edward Koch. He was the treasurer of Temple Beth Ahm in Aberdeen.
Mr. Turoff is survived by his fiancé Sandy Finkelstein, her son Jason Solomon and his wife Shari, her son Jonathan Finkelstein, her granddaughter Courtney Solomon Campbell, her granddaughter Taylor Solomon, her great-grandson Liam Charles Campbell, and his son-in-law Victor Rago.
Jay was predeceased by his son Marc Turoff, his daughter Jill Rago, and his parents Aaron and Rose Turoff.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Temple Beth Ahm, 550 Lloyd Road, Aberdeen, New Jersey 07747 (livestream: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKbx4d6HrdCHRooFl0Ts2eQ) followed by a burial service at 1:00 PM at United Hebrew Cemetery, 122 Arthur Kill Road, Staten Island, New York 10306.
A congregation gathering will occur on Wednesday and Thursday from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Temple Beth Ahm, 550 Lloyd Road, Aberdeen, New Jersey 07747 with minyan at 8:15 PM on both days.
