Hector Smilowitz

Hector Smilowitz, 87, of Freehold, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016. He was born in Havana, Cuba and came to the United States in 1951. Mr. Smilowitz lived in the Brownsville and Canarsie sections of Brooklyn, NY and Union City,NJ before moving to the Covered Bridge development of Manalapan, NJ in 2008. He was recently a resident of Brookside Assisted Living, Freehold, NJ.

Mr. Smilowitz was a member of the Independent Opoler Benevolent Society.

He was predeceased by his wife, Eva Smilowitz, and his brothers: Yonas Smilowitz and Solomon Smilowitz.

Surviving are his sons: Stanley Smilowitz of Germantown,TN and Dr. Daniel Smilowitz and his wife, Dr. Elissa Koplik Smilowitz of East Brunswick , N.J.

His brother and sister-in-law, Luis and Sonia Smilowitz of London and brother Manny Smilowitz of Miami,FL,and his 4 grandchildren: Dr. Sarah Smilowitz Carroll and her husband, Matthew Carroll, Jessica Rachel Smilowitz, Andrew Harris Smilowitz and his wife, Sara Koncius Smilowitz, and Stephen Todd Smilowitz.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 9 am at Bloomfield Cooper Jewish Chapels, 44 Wilson Avenue, Manalapan, NJ 07726. The burial will follow at Wellwood Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY.

The family will be observing shiva at 13 Williamsburg Court, East Brunswick, NJ 08816. They will be sitting Saturday starting at 7pm and Sunday starting at 4pm. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Smilowitz's memory to the East Brunswick Jewish Center, 511 Ryders Lane, East Brunswick, NJ 08816.
