Barry Weiner, 63-years-old, passed away June 24, 2023 due to an unexpected medical complication. He was taken way too soon. Barry was born on February 7, 1960 in Bronx, NY and although you can take the boy out of the Bronx, you can never really take the Bronx out of the boy. The Bronx should be proud of the life that Barry lived.
Barry grew up in Co-Op City with his mother Harriet, his father Richard and his brother Alan. He enjoyed spending time with his many Co-Op City friends and especially loved playing sports and listening to music. It was during these early years that he became a steadfast, dedicated Yankee fan and he worked as a vendor in Yankee stadium for quite a number of years. During his younger years, his musical tastes were heavily influenced by his older brother Alan. Barry was particularly fond of any songs (except Helter Skelter, according to Barry, “that’s just noise”) by the Beatles and the Grateful Dead. He attended over 40 Grateful Dead concerts, yet never got to hear Uncle John’s Band played live. We are hoping that Jerry will provide Barry with a heavenly performance of that song.
Barry graduated Stonybrook University with highest honors and then earned his MD at Downstate Medical Center. He continued his internship at NYU Medical Center and completed his residency at New York Medical College. He was the sole practitioner at All-County Dermatology from 1993-2018 and during this time, he healed thousands of patients, always keeping the optimum patient outcome as his goal. He was a brilliant dermatologist with a sharp mind, a keen eye and incomparable diagnostic skills.
Another one of Barry’s passions was golf and he was fortunate to spend the last four years as a snowbird at Gleneagles Country Club in Delray Beach Florida. He thoroughly enjoyed his time in Florida in this warm and friendly community. Barry was also an avid movie buff and could list dates of release, actors and actresses and academy awards won on many films over the past 50 years. He inherited a love of history from his dad who was a high school social studies teacher. He enjoyed discussing WW2, the Korean War and other conflicts with many of his veteran patients and had the utmost respect for those who served our country.
Finally, and above all else, Barry loved his family. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Debbie Luchansky-Weiner and his two sons, Rob and Alex Weiner. He always said his greatest accomplishment was his boys and he was so proud of the fine young men that Rob and Alex had become. There was always an “I love you” at the end of the conversation and a hug at the end of the days spent together. As a family, they loved to travel and enjoyed many vacations skiing at Okemo, Vermont and Beaver Creek, Colorado among other venues. They were fortunate to travel to Israel, Costa Rica, Turks and Caicos as well as many states within the US. Cruises held a special appeal to them for quite a number of years and they have many special memories of cruises to the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and Alaska. The family shared many moments of laughter together over the years and Debbie and the boys always delighted in seeing the goofy, silly side of Barry. They also greatly appreciated the man that Barry was. He was dedicated to being the best provider he could be for his family. He was an incredible “fixer” and kept their home and yard in pristine condition. He would get lost for hours down in his “Mancave” with all of his power tools. He was an extremely principled man with a strong moral compass. He was the truest of friends and was a lover of animals. He was “Bah” and he will be missed by many and loved forever.
