Steve was a graduate of Jackson Memorial High School, class of 1987. He was the star kicker on the football team, even holding a school record for longest field goal before he graduated. He also excelled on the team as a tight end, split end, and running back. His intense athleticism was something he carried on through his life. Hockey was his other passion; he competed on a state hockey team until he was 37, and won most valuable goaltender in the masters AAA division.
His love for sports was strong, but came second to the love he had for his family. In his free time, he would love to spend time with his wife and three children. His favorite thing to do was sit outside in the sun and he loved to go in the pool. He also treasured his time volunteering with The Manahawkin Elks Club, and helping out with their events for those with special needs.
When he was not with his family, volunteering, or playing sports, he was hard at work. He had a work ethic like no other; all because of his dedication to do everything he could for his family. He was talented in his job as a director of sales.
Stephen is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Dawn Anderson Carr, his three beloved children Brett, Madison and Mackenzie, his cherished mother Carol, his brother Timothy, and his wife Christina, his brother Christopher, and his wife Patricia, his Uncle Donald and Aunt Mary Robbins, his cousins Kristin and Richard Kennedy, his cousin Daniel Robbins and Matthew Deason, who he thought of as a son, and his father-in-law Duke Anderson. Stephen was predeceased by his devoted father, Robert Carr.
A memorial will be held at the Saint Mary of the Pines at 100 Bishop Lane, in Manahawkin, New Jersey on Thursday, June 21st, 2018 from 10:30am-11:30am, followed by a mass at 11:30 am. Condolences may be sent to www.shinnfuneralhome.com
