It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Francis Ferreri, a beloved father, husband, and brother, who transitioned peacefully on Tuesday, November 28th, 2023, at the age of 74, surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Born on October 5, 1949, in Jersey City, NJ, and raised by a single mother following the early loss of his father, he assumed a leadership role that profoundly shaped his future. Robert became the first in his family to earn a college degree, receiving a diploma in Biology from St. Mary’s of the Plains in Dodge City, Kansas, a master's in Criminal Justice from Jersey City State University, and even attended the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
Rising up the ranks quickly, he dedicated 35 years of service to the city of Clifton, NJ, including eight years leading the department as Chief of Police. To his family and friends, he was the life of the party and the last to leave the dance floor. He had impeccable taste, sharp wit, and, despite a lifetime in uniform, a suit collection that could rival any CEO.
After a five-year struggle with Frontal Temporal Dementia—a brutal disease that tends to manifest at a younger age than other forms of dementia—Robert is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Pat Ferreri, and his children, Lori Ann Ferreri and husband, Yoann Schouver; Robert Ferreri and his fiancé, Alexandra Constandinou; and John Patrick Ferreri.
For those who wish to pay their respects and offer condolences to the Ferreri family, there will be two visitations on Monday, December 4, 2023, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Tuesday, December 5th, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Thos. L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Drive, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Following the Tuesday morning viewing on December 5th, the funeral service will be held from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM at St Mary's Church, 747 West Bay Ave, Barnegat, NJ 08005.
In lieu of flowers, the Ferreri family requests that donations be made to https://www.theaftd.org/ in memory of Robert Ferreri to raise awareness and garner support for those affected by this brutal disease.
