He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 35+ years, Gertrude (Trudy) Boyle Kuhn, his sister Eileen Hurley, his niece, Kathy Joe, and his parents Ernest and Ruth Kuhn and his dog, Sammy.
Richard is survived by his son Richard Kuhn Jr., (Lorraine) and 4 grandchildren, Daniel, Richie Jr., Breanna, Giana, his sister, Joyce Charles (Steph), his stepchildren, Thomas Santaguida (Natalie), John Santaguida (Ermina), Susan Santaguida Castrati, Steven Santaguida (Tina), his step-grandchildren, Tommy, Taylor, Caroline, John Scott, Mark, Sarah, Madison, Holden, Cole, Bailey, Morgan and Jaclyn and nieces Cheryl Charles-Ward, Kristi Charles Tutela and nephew Jamie Charles.
Richard went to Manasquan High School. He was also very proud to attend Admiral Farragut Naval Academy before attending University of Virginia. He held a USCG 100 ton Master Mariner’s Credential. He often talked about how he was glad he put in the time to get his USCG Captain license. For many years he was Captain of fishing boats at Kens Landing out of Point Pleasant Beach, NJ. He was known as ‘Captain Dick’ where he had an avid following of Anglers. Along with his wife, Trudy he then operated Gates Bait and Tackle and Motel in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ and then operated River Road Antiques and Lighting in Lambertville, NJ. He last worked at Surf City Bait and Tackle in Surf City, NJ. He enjoyed fishing and the last few years enjoyed spending time and watching football and the Mets with his beloved friend/neighbor Joan.
A Memorial Service will be held in March 5, 2022 at the Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin, NJ. 9:00 to 11:00, burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manahawkin, NJ
