Born on March 6th, 1962, Melinda knew she was destined for a career in medicine. Her early inclinations for compassionate healing were demonstrated through makeshift animal hospitals constructed out of cardboard boxes and serving as a Candy Striper (nurse’s aide) at Valley Hospital in her youth. Melinda was a graduate of Ramapo High School in 1980 after spending a formative year abroad in Bolivia. She then attended Boston University for Nursing through 1984, and then returned to medical school in 1988 at UMDNJ (now the Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine) completing her studies in 1994 and residency in 1998.
She was an ER doctor at Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin, NJ prior to opening her private practice Better at Home Medical Care Services in 2007 which was based in Barnegat, NJ. She was well loved by all her patients and their families, frequently regarded as compassionate and having a substantial impact.
Melinda was an avid quilter, she enjoyed planting flowers around her house, a cat lover, and more recently, also a French Bulldog enthusiast. She was a volunteer for Family Promise at Ocean County Community Church for many years, also serving as an Elder and Deacon. Above all else, she was the rock of her family, unwavering in her ability to provide a safe and nurturing environment, often prioritizing the health and happiness of others over her own. She will be dearly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 9:30am-11:30am at Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin, NJ. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am at the funeral home with a celebration of life held from noon to 2pm.
