Mary Alice “Pat” Rowe of Barnegat, NJ, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 21. She was 93.
Pat was born January 7, 1918, on Staten Island, NY, the only child of Dr. Thomas and Julia Pearson. She attended, and was a faithful alumna of, Notre Dame Academy in Staten Island and Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart in New York City (now in Purchase, NY). In 1941 Pat married George Barron Rowe, a New York City fire fighter who was the “love of her life.”
Pat was an active member of St. Thomas More Church in Convent Station, NJ, for 25 years. In 1989, Pat and George moved to Barnegat, NJ, where she was an involved parishioner in St. Mary’s Church, participating in Monica’s Daughters, Scripture Group and Perpetual Adoration. She was a lifelong advocate for the unborn through her volunteer work with Birthright International.
Pat was a loving wife to George for 70 years, and a wonderful mother to their five children and spouses: Pat and Tom Davine, Barry and Patti Rowe, Pam and Jack Monahan, Tom and Valerie Rowe and Rich Rowe and Pam Stites. She was also a beloved grandmother of 16, great-grandmother of 23, a loving aunt of many nieces and nephews, and treasured friend to countless others. Pat will be greatly missed but has left a legacy of life lessons and love for us all to carry on in her memory.
A viewing for friends and family will be held at Thomas L. Shinn Funeral Home in Manahawkin, NJ, on June 24, from 4PM to 8 PM. Pat’s funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Barnegat, NJ, on June 25, at 11:30 am.
