June 28, 1952-November 26, 2015
Dr. Lynn Patricia Sherman, 63, of Beach Haven passed away peacefully in her family’s care on Thursday, November 26, 2015. Born at Sampson Air Force Base, New York, to John and Rosemary Sherman, Lynnie was a dedicated health professional, proud veteran and a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt and friend.
In secondary school, Lynnie was educated by the Roman Catholic sisters of the Religious of the Assumption, graduating from the order’s Ravenhill Academy boarding school in Philadelphia in 1970. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and biochemistry from Georgian Court College in Lakewood in 1978, and earned her doctor of dental surgery degree from the University of the Pacific in San Francisco in 1983.
Dr. Sherman practiced dentistry in New Jersey from 1983 to 2008. She operated her own private practice for 21 of those 25 years in Beach Haven, where she also resided for most of her life and served the community as a member of Soroptimist International of Long Beach Island’s club.
While contemplating retirement from her private practice, Dr. Sherman decided she should give back, and entered the U.S. Army. She was going to help our soldiers, and help she did. She was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and then assigned to work in Germany at the U.S. Army’s Bavaria Dental Activity (BDENTAC).
Major Sherman retired from the U.S. Army in 2014 following a lengthy illness, returning home to Beach Haven. Prior to the escalation of her illness, she was to take a position as a dentist in South Dakota.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Lynn’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project ( https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/ ), Disabled American Veterans (http://www.dav.org/ ) or the University of Pennsylvania’s Abramson Cancer Center (https://cancer.pennmedicine.org/giving/ways-to-give/tribute-gifts ).
Lynnie is survived by her stepfather Ronald King and her siblings Carole Trakimas, John Sherman (Vicki), Sandra Sirolly (Charles), Rosemary Walsh (John), Randall Provoost and Kim Daly.

Lynnie wants us to share with all of you how very much she loves you, how much she enjoyed singing her “Nee Nee Nah Nah” song to all of her nieces and nephews, and had a lot of fun trying to sell each of you as you came along. Aunt Lynnie has had fun shopping for all of you! She loved sending goodies to you and yours! She wants you to remember the many trips to Hartman’s and Fantasy Island; Lucille’s Candies and all the fudge and chocolates; the Crust and Crumb Bakery; the Holiday Snack Bar; Buckalew’s and Tucker’s Tavern, and pub crawls with her nieces and nephews! Think of the fun summers at the Sea Shell’s outdoor bar and your inclusion of her! Remember how she fought against the 1999 elimination of the Beach Haven School’s kindergarten classes for four-year-olds. She loved her cups of tea from the wharf and The Gables. Remember her spunk and how she could give as good as she got. It’s that spunk that kept her fighting to live!
Make sure you brush and floss regularly, and stay fashionable and current in everything, especially your clothing and shoes! Buy Maybelline for your brows!
She thanks all of you for all your special visits to her these past six months. They meant a lot to her and gave her moments that she could smile about later when treatments got tough! She wants you to know that she fought hard! Stayed true to herself and never quit! She will be with Mom-Mom now and will surely be sharing all that is going on! We told her to make sure it is a good report!
Remember, “It is All for One and One for All! And East or West, Home is Best!!
