Gary S Scheimreif

Gary is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jill Scheimreif (nee Snow), his daughter and son-in-law Kari and Anthony Ormando, his daughter and her partner, Sara Scheimreif and Alex Sohani, his Brother and Sister-in-law, David and Susie Scheimreif, as well as 2 beautiful grandchildren, Chloe Rose Cardello and Jack James Ormando, who loved their Poppop like no other. Brother and Sister-In-Law Robert and Nancy Snow, Sister-In-Laws Barbara Mueller and Brenda Snow as well as a slew of nieces and nephews.

Gary grew up in Beach Haven and attended Southern Regional High School, class of ’72. He worked for the Borough of Beach Haven as a CDL driver for his entire career, retiring several years ago. Gary and Jill were married in May of 1979 and moved their family to Manahawkin in search of some rural living in the pines, where he could always be found puttering around his yard in search of a wayward acorn or in his easy chair with a crossword puzzle.

But if you knew Gary, you knew that the only thing he loved more than his family, was his music. Gary could pick up any guitar at any time and play whatever was on the radio, or just what was playing in his head. He was a member of a couple bands over the years, Garage Kept and most recently the Dougherty Duo with his brother-in-music, Mike Dougherty.

Gary was a life member of the Beach Haven Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, where he spent many an hour serving turkey dinners, making life-long friends, and of course serving Beach Haven, the town he loved so much.

In his younger years, you could find him on the water, fishing and clamming in the ocean or the bay.

Our family is grateful to know that Gary is finally at peace, and we will love and miss him until our last days.

Services will be held at Thos. L. Shinn funeral home, 10 Hilliard Dr. Manahawkin on Thursday, December 1st from 4pm-7pm, all are welcome. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to honor Gary in whatever way would be most meaningful to you in his memory; whether it be music, the bay or another cause that means the most to you.
