Ernest H. Senior Jr. of Manahawkin NJ died on Friday May 6, 2011, at home. He was predeceased by his father Ernest H. Senior Sr. his mother Jessie Ashton Senior, his sister Jessie, wife Mary A. (nee McCardell), daughter Constance and son Charles. Born on July 28, 1923 in Philadelphia PA. Later his family moved to Palmyra NJ. In 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was assigned to the First Marine Division in the south Pacific. He saw action at the battles of Guadalcanal, New Guinea and was wounded on Peleliu in the Palau Islands, for which he was awarded a Purple Heart.
He married Mary A McCardell in 1945 and settled down to begin a family in Palmyra and began repairing televisions. At this time he became a volunteer fireman for the Independence Fire Company N.1. He was also a member of the Palmyra Ambulance Assoc., and founding member of the Civil Defense Heavy Duty Rescue Squad.
In 1959 the family moved to Beach Haven and he opened Senior’s TV Repair Shop. Several years later he joined the Beach Haven Police department. In 1988 he retired as Deputy Chief.
Ernie and his wife moved to Manahawkin where he loved working in his workshop.
Ernie is survived by his daughter Betty Hubbs and husband Jerry of New Gretna NJ; Ernie Senior and wife Lynda of Virginia Beach VA; Ed Senior and wife Holly of Broken Arrow OK; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home on Thursday May 12, 2011 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the American Cancer Society.
