Cheryl Evelyn Hawkes

Cheryl was born Peekskill, NY, she was raised in Montrose, NY, moving to Hopewell Junction, NY where she and her husband, Harold raised their family. In 1995, they moved to the Jersey Shore after they retired.

Cheryl is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Harold, her loving children; Bryan Hawkes and his wife Vicky, Ashley Hawkes and Lisa Lange and her husband Randy. She is also survived by her adored grandchildren; Nicholas and his wife Marisa, Jordan, Christian, Eddie and Matthew and her precious great-granddaughter Amelia as well as her brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Marie Bell and her many nieces and nephews.

Cheryl worked as a Registered Nurse at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Tarrytown, NY. In her later years, she drove a school bus in New York and in New Jersey. The children that rode on her bus were very special to her.

She was an avid Yankees fan, she enjoyed walking the beach to look for shells and she loved to travel, she and Harold enjoyed the cruises they would take later on in life. She also enjoyed going to garage sales and thrifting. Church was a big part of her life, she especially loved to listen as Harold would play the organ at Church.

The family would like to give a tremendous thank you to Marie, her caretaker, for the compassion and care she gave to Cheryl.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, February 18, 2024 from 1:00pm-3:00pm at Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin, a prayer service will be held at 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Cheryl’s name may be sent to your local food bank or donations of your used clothing to your local nursing home.
