Barbara Ann Berndt passed peacefully on November 11, 2018. She had celebrated her 84th birthday on November 1st. Born in Jersey City, Barbara was the daughter of William and Margaret (Haney) Berndt and sister of William Jr. (Mary Pat) Berndt. In addition to her parents and brother, she was the devoted aunt of Mary Beth Berndt, Kathleen (Michael) Christensen, William, Jr (Justine) Berndt and Jennifer (Al) Sullivan…great aunt of Meaghan, Abigail, Alexandra, Hallie, Michael, Hannah, Declan, Gracie and Liam. After 50 years together, she was also pre-deceased by her best friend and ‘sister’ Joan Rose Locke and all their furry friends and companions.
Barbara was a faithful member of St Francis of Assisi parish community. She attended daily mass; was a Eucharistic Minister and shared Holy Communion with the housebound and patients at SOCH; volunteered for many church functions and gave generously in support of all its activities.
She always looked forward to visits from ‘her upstate NY cousins’ Ed Sr., Kathy, Patti, Ed and Terry Duncan, Lourdes (Sis), Sr. Judith RSM, Jim and Joe Kapp. Barbara and Joan would travel north to be with them for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The cousins would then travel to LBI to join her at the beach. She cherished her dearest childhood friend Carol who faithfully called her every week; and she looked forward to visits from special family friends, Denise and Bill.
The family wishes to express our gratitude to the 2nd floor nurses station at Genesis for their kindness and loving care of Barbara. It will never be forgotten. Special thanks also to Carol and Edna for their never-ending love and support.
