He was a U S Army veteran of the Vietnam War serving with Charley Co. 15TC, First Calvary, at An Khe. Bill was a proud recipient of a Purple Heart. After graduating from Morris Harvey College, Bill taught Social Studies at Stonewall Jackson and South Charleston High Schools before taking a position with E I DuPont. Belle Works, retiring after 25 years of service.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Everett and Josephine Brown; and a sister, Deloris Fay Calvert.
Bill is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ruth Siders Brown; sons, Michael and wife, Stephanie, of Locust Grove, Virginia, and Mark and wife, Mary, of Charleston; grandchildren, Eleanor and Anderson Brown; sisters, Grace Maxine Brown of Winifrede, Claris (Charles) Green of Essex, Maryland, Marguerite (Charles) Bader of Simi, California; brother, Edward (Kay) Brown of Winifrede; and brother-in-law, William Calvert of Winifrede.
The funeral service will be held Noon Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Celebrant HR Whittington officiating. The interment will follow the service at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veteran Cemetery, Dunbar.
Family and friends will gather for a visitation one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
