Ruth Elaine Stanley, 53 of Charleston passed away Thursday July 30, 2015 at her home. Elaine was born June 27, 1962 in Charleston, WV to Leslie and Ruth Perry Stanley. She spent her early years playing in and around the grocery store owned by her parents until she was old enough to stock shelves and run the cash register. She was a 1980 graduate of East Bank High School and had been a volunteer for Charleston Area Medical Center from 1997-2001. Before becoming disabled, Elaine attended Dawes United Methodist Church on Cabin Creek and had been employed at CAMC General Hospital in the Patient Accounts Department. She lived most of her life in the community of Quarrier (Stanleyville) on Cabin Creek until moving to Rand in 2012. Elaine enjoyed driving the scenic back roads of West Virginia and surrounding states. She loved to take a different route each trip and liked to stop to take photographs at the overlooks. She frequently recalled her travels to Virginia Beach, Colonial Williamsburg, the Biltmore Estate, the Smoky Mountains National Park, and driving the Blue Ridge Parkway. Elaine traveled to many of West Virginia's state parks with Cass Scenic Railroad being her favorite. The place in West Virginia that she loved most was the main overlook at Grandview National Park outside Beckley. She made many trips to that area to spend time admiring the beautiful mountains and spending time in prayer. Elaine was interested in genealogy and researching her family tree. She also enjoyed working on different types of craft projects and was frequently asked to create ribbon bows for her friends. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Carol Easterling, and a brother, Floyd Stanley. She is survived by her brother, Keith Stanly and his wife, Betty of Rhonda, nieces: Mary, Debbie, Cheryl, Kathy and Ondrea, nephews; Don, Alvin, Lewis, Michael, Darrell, Les, Joseph, and Benjamin. It was Elaine's desire to acknowledge several close friends and thank them for their love and support over years; Blair Johe, Debbie Meadows, Rachel Myatezh, Teresa Samms and Debbie Stowers all of Charleston, Dianna Rowley of South Charleston, Charlotte Blackwell, Debbie Shamblin and Lora Slack all of Clendenin, Rev. Larry and Annette Dunnett of Diamond, her cousin Robert Messer and his wife Ursula of Baytown, TX and her neighbor James who always called to check on her and wish her a blessed day. Funeral Services will be held Friday August 7, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden with Pastor Ollie Parsons officiating. Burial will follow at Montgomery Memorial Park, London. Family & Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Friday at the Funeral Home. She also wished to extend a special thank you to Dr. Ghali Bacha and his staff for their care and compassion over the years.
