Bob was born in Sissonville on July 13, 1936, to the late Golden and Lora Griffith Slater. He was a US Army Veteran having served during the Korean War. After his honorary discharge from the Army, he started his employment with L.O.F. Glass Company in Charleston for a few years and then in 1965, started a career with U.S. Postal Service where he retired as a station manager and was a 50 year union member of Branch 531. He was a member of Big Bottom Missionary Baptist Church, a member of Salina Lodge #27 A.F. & A.M. and served as Grand Master from 1987-1988, and was also a member of the Scottish Rite and Beni Kedem Shrine in Charleston.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Geraldine Slater; daughter, Jackie Epling; and sister, Janet Slater.
Bob is survived by his children, John Myers of Charleston, Paula “Shorty” Dorsey of Charleston, Ruthie Fort and Dorothy Myers, both of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Henry Myers of Charleston, Kathryn Teets, Teresa Harrison and Barbara Slater, all of Charleston; and a multitude of Grandchildren, Great-grandchildren and Great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Pastor Fred Christian officiating. Entombment with Military Honors and Masonic Rites will follow at Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Sissonville.
A visitation with family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 29, 2024, t the Funeral Home.
