Mark Edward Griffith

Mark Edward Griffith, 62, of Belle, passed away on the evening of January 6, 2016 after his long fight with pancreatic cancer. He fought this disease since being diagnosed in 2012 with the assistance of the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Philadelphia. Mark’s positive attitude about his struggle with cancer was inspirational to all who knew him. He remained positive about his situation through his many trips to Philadelphia over the past 4 years. Mark was born in Gassaway, WV and spent most of his childhood in Dille, WV. His family moved to Hancock, MD in 1964. He then moved to Berkeley Springs, WV in 1967, where he attended Berkeley Springs High School. He was married to the love of his life, Vicki Lynn Facemire in Virginia. Mark worked multiple jobs over the years - at one time owning his own tractor trailer, operating his own service station, and spending many years working in the coal industry in various capacities. Mark finally found his calling with the West Virginia Society for the Blind, working with blind vendors across the state. Mark retired from the West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation Services as a business counselor. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his three grandsons and granddaughter. He studied extensively and was well versed in old cars, old music, old movies, and anything else “aged." Mark was preceded in death by his father, Theodore Griffith Jr.; his mother, Leona Gates Griffith; and his brother, David Marshall Griffith. Mark is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Vicki Lynn Griffith; his son Matthew and his wife April and their two children, Zachary (9) and Natalie (4) of Pocatalico; his son Jonathan and his wife Callie and their two children, Lucas (6) and Liam (3) of Charleston; and his brother Theodore (T.G.) Gates Griffith and his wife Joyce Ann Griffith (sister of Vicki) of Dille, WV and their three daughters Leanne, Andrea, and Amanda and their families. He is also survived by his mother and father-in-law, Billy Gene Facemire and Wanda Facemire of Dille, WV with whom he spent much time and shared many memories; his two brothers-in-law, Billy Gene Facemire (Pam) and Frankie Facemire (Valerie) and sister-in-law Debbie Browning (Charley) and many nephews and nieces and great nephews and great nieces. Friends may call between 5pm and 7pm at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home in Malden WV, on Saturday January 9 with Memorial service to follow at 7pm officiated by Pastor Tim Martin. A special thanks to Dr. Thomas Linger and his staff for his care over the years, to Dr. Shama Kazmi and the entire supportive, incredible staff of CTCA-Philadelphia, to the nurses and staff at CAMC Memorial 4 North, and to Jo of Hospice for the help during those last difficult hours.
