John was born at Ivydale, West Virginia, on April 15, 1934, to the late M.H. (Rance) and Etta Smarr Brannon. He was a former employee of Owen-Illinois Glass Company and retired from the US Postal Service. He was a member of Spring Fork Baptist Church. He loved reading the Bible which he had read through 26 times. John enjoyed playing golf, playing the piano, going to Myrtle Beach and was an avid WVU sports fan.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Alice Rose Brannon; sisters, Cleo Simon, Opal Houchins, Edna Smith, Garnet Pedigrew, Mary Lou Douglas and Annette Fowler; and brother, Arthur Brannon.
John is survived by his daughters, Susan Brannon of Charleston, Tammy Carter of South Charleston and Debra Brogan of Charleston; sister, Elizabeth Sampson of Ivydale; grandchildren, Alyssa Lynn, Audrey and Sophie Brogan; great-grandchildren, Preston and Marissa Lynn.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Pastor Mike Long officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.
A visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.
