Carol Sue Ward Blake, 72, of Campbells Creek, departed this life on February 18, at CAMC Memorial Hospital after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Wayne Blake; her father and mother, James E. and Daisy Ward; her daughter, Robin Ferrell Curry; her stepdaughter, Cathy Blake Osborne; and her brothers, Ricky, David, Johnny and Billy Ward. Carol was a retired educator from Kanawha County Schools. She was a published poet and belonged to the Lambda Zeta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, an honorary society in education. She graduated from West Virginia State College in 1987, with a baccalaureate degree, Magna Cum Laude. Surviving Carol is her daughter, Stephanie Rene Ferrell, stepson, James (Leah) Blake; sister, Joyce (Webby) Rouse; and brother, Gary (Jackie) Ward, all of Charleston. Also surviving are brothers, Jimmy Ward of St. Albans and Roger (Kay) Ward of Roanoke, Virginia; and sister, Cathy Hopkins of Montgomery. She is survived by six grandchildren, Christopher (Monica) Osborne, Ashley and Amber Curry, Hunter Martin, Sabra and Jordan Blake; three great-grandchildren, Lexi and Levi Osborne and Ayden Rivera; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral service will be held 12:00 p.m. Monday, February 23, 2015, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with the Rev. Mike Long officiating. The burial will follow the service in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow. Family and friends will gather for the visitation 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
