On February 10, 2012, God sent an angel and called William Edward “Willie” Garrett home. A beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather, “our arms are empty, but we will always hold him in our hearts”.
Born February 2, 1936 in Lynchburg, he was the youngest son of five children of the late Albert Daniel and Ethel Maxey Garrett and was also preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Garrett Brooks. Mr. Garrett was a member of Grace Baptist Church and the D.A.V. for ten years. He retired from Delta Star in 1997 after thirty-eight years of service and from Centra Health, as of February 9, 2012 after eleven years. He had many beloved friends and co-workers and he loved working in his vegetable garden, which he kept extra neat and clean. Mr. Garrett was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War.
Those left to cherish his loving memory are his wife, of fifty-eight years, Jeannette Reynolds Garrett; daughter, Beverly Barrett (Bruce) of Forest; two granddaughters, Jennifer Saechao (Luke) of Madison Heights and Laura Latendresse (Jake) of Ft. Collins, CO; three great-grandsons, Lukas, Noah, and Seth Saechao; one great-granddaughter, Aspen, on the way; one sister, Dorothy Riddle and two brothers, Albert D. Garrett, Jr. and wife, Barbara of Madison Heights and Owen Garrett and wife, Ann of Lynchburg and other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 13, 2012 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Melvin Campbell, Pastor Jeff Slaughter, and the Rev. Tyler Holder officiating. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 16 will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

The family would like to thank all of our friends in Christ for all of your prayers, cards, visits, phone calls, love, and support during William’s battle with cancer. We would also like to thank all of the staff at Lynchburg Hematology/Oncology and especially Dr. Cecilia M. MacCallum, who is well loved.
