Virgil Dean Downs, 70, of Amherst passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at his residence. He was the husband of Diane Gause Downs. Born May 13, 1948, in Mansfield, OH, he was the son of Ethel Anderson Downs and the late Virgil Leroy Downs.
Virgil was a retired Quality Control Engineer for both B&W and Areva. He was a secretary for the Ruritan Club of Clifton and a member of the Piedmont Bee Keeper’s Association. Virgil also was a 30 year member of the Boy Scouts of America and an officer for the American Society of Metals.
In addition to his wife and mother, Virgil is survived by his two children, Jeffrey Downs and his wife Michelle of Chesapeake and Kimberly Gillian and her husband Charles of Spring Hill, TN; two siblings, Sandra Downs of Mansfield, OH and Bruce Downs and his wife Leigh of Mansfield OH; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m., Sunday, May 27, 2018, at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
