

Born October 31, 1918, in Greene Co., he was a son of the late William Jackson Riner and Carrie Wood Riner. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Vivian Riner Smith; 3 sisters, Alice Bryant, Agnes McAlexander, and Lucille McAlister; and a brother, Roy Riner.
Mr. Riner was retired from the Central Virginia Training Center, as a mechanic, and attended Temple Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas W. Riner Jr. and wife Betty, and Albert O. Riner and wife Susan, both of Monroe; a brother, Robert Riner and wife Joyce, of Madison Heights; his son-in-law, Thomas E. Smith, of Charleston, SC, 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2011, at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 14, 2011, at the funeral home, by the Rev. Charles Stinson and the Rev. J.D. Surbaugh Jr. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Diabetes Association, and or the Gideon’s International.
