Sue Lilly Hunnicutt, born December 29, 1945, in Harrisonburg, Virginia, peacefully passed away on March 21, 2024, at her residence, Maple Valley Farm, in Amherst, Virginia. She was the cherished daughter of the late Harold and Mary Lee Lilly. Sue was the proud mother of her only child, Lisa, of whom they shared a strong bond that lasted a lifetime.
Sue was the beloved wife of Fred "Tom" Hunnicutt, with whom she shared many beautiful moments and adventures. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion.
A woman of deep faith, Sue was a dedicated member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Amherst, Virginia. She actively served on the Parish Council, Family Focus, and Altar Flower Committees. Sue's musical talents shone brightly as she accompanied the church choir on both organ and piano.
Additionally, Sue was a longtime attendee of Elon Baptist Church, sharing her faith journey with her second husband, Tom.
Sue's educational journey began at Ft. Defiance High School, and she later graduated from the esteemed College of Hard Knocks, a testament to her resilience and determination.
In 1969, Sue relocated to Lynchburg, Virginia, with her first husband, Richard Tubbs. She served as the Executive Secretary to Lewis B. Goode, Jr., at Fidelity National Bank/Central Fidelity Bank. Sue's career also saw her manage Carolina Furniture Outlet and Hunnicutt Furniture and Interiors in Madison Heights, Virginia.
Sue found love with Tom Hunnicutt. Their union was celebrated with an unforgettable Ante-Bellum Wedding at White Chimneys in Elon, Virginia, on September 10th, 1994. Together, they cherished memorable moments, including a trip to Rome and time spent with loved ones at Maple Valley Farm.
Sue's passion for music was evident in her love for her baby grand piano and her recent musical accomplishments.
She adored her "fur babies," Traveler, JoJo, Tara, Fuzzy, and Mr. Pepper, who brought immense joy into her life.
Sue leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for her daughter, Lisa D. Tubbs, and son-in-law, Kevin Dick of Lexington Virginia. She is also survived by her sister, Brenda L. Bonfoey, nephew Christopher Pennell, stepchildren Paige Austin, Lesly Hunnicutt, Tommy Hunnicutt, brother-in-law Robert Hunnicutt and his wife Kitty, several grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A private family gathering to celebrate Sue's remarkable life will be held at a later date.
The family has entrusted arrangements to Whitten Monelison Chapel, where Sue's life will be commemorated with the dignity and respect she deserves.
