Born in Amherst on October 7, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Herman Wheeler and Maggie Gibson Wheeler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Phillip N. Campbell and two brothers, Dale Wheeler and Herman L. Wheeler.
She retired from Wachovia bank after 30 years of service and was very active in the community. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Piney River Volunteer Fire Department. She loved flowers and hummingbirds. She was a member of Piney River Baptist Church and was heavily involved in and loved her church.
She is survived by her two sons, Greg Campbell and his wife Stacey of Amherst, Chris Campbell and his wife Kim of Monroe; grandchildren Kyra Brooks, Lyndsey Ellinger, Kayla Dodd and Jenna Brogan; 9 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Flo Johnson and her husband Fritz of Fullerton, CA, Hazel Hall of Abingdon and Lyn Higginbothom of Moneta.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be conducted on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. at Piney River Baptist Church with Pastor Daniel Ripley officiating. Interment will follow at Amherst Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
